Introducing new BBC series, ‘The Audacious’
Introducing… ‘The Audacious’ , a brand new 3-part BBC series that follows Euella and a group of talented yet frustrated young film-makers on a journey to find and share positive stories about climate change. They’re leading a youth-led revolution, flipping the negative narratives around the climate crisis from doom to BOOM.
Q: So, what is ‘The Audacious’?
Ok so, ‘The Audacious’ is a new BBC online series directed by the incredible Anna Roberts and produced by Laura Giles from Storm Force Films. It’s a solutions-focussed, positive series that tackles the question that all of us are thinking, is there any hope for us in the climate crisis or are we all f*cked?
It’s called The Audacious, because we wanted to shine a light on all the amazing young people all over the world and here in the UK who are fearlessly and audaciously bringing all the positive vibes and hope we all need right now.
Q: What is your role on The Audacious?
So I am lucky enough to be the ‘host’ or ‘presenter’ for this series. Whether it’s writing, directing or producing, I have spent a lot of time behind the camera in recently, but I do feel at home in front of the camera. Especially when I get to work on projects where I get to meet gorgeously interesting people, be inspired and work with an uber talented crew - so working on ‘The Audacious’ was an absolute dream *chefs kiss*.
Q:Why is The Audacious important to you?
Honestly, there’s not much out there like The Audacious. It feels fresh, relatable and brings a bit of sauce to a topic that feels overdone and is frankly quite depressing. As someone who has often felt paralysed when it came to navigating the climate crisis and the anxiety I felt about the future, I feel more confident and hopeful, which is such a generative place to be starting from. Obviously, there’s still a long way to go, and at the heart of that there needs to be culture change but The Audacious really opens the door for so many of us who don’t know where to start and don’t know what’s out there. I love the fact that the audience gets to come on the same journey as the crew. We don’t claim to be experts and we’re allowed to be honest about where we’re at; the conflicts, the contradictions and the fears - which I hope people will appreciate.
We started having conversations about The Audacious back in 2020, so it’s taken 2 years to bring it to fruition and I’m really grateful to Laura and Anna for having a vision, holding on and fighting for it. I’m so proud of it and just honoured that I was able to be a small part of bringing it to life.
Q: What was it like filming it?
Two words: Great vibes. The Audacious was honestly soo much fun to film! I got to go to Falmouth, Cornwall and hang with such a fantastic crew for a couple of weekends, break bread together and be totally inspired. I always feel like I left the set feeling a little different than I did when I got there. The crew feel like family now and I was blown away by Anna’s vision and the team’s ability to be professional af but also bring the top quality banter.
Q:What story sticks out to you from all the contributors you spoke to?
There were so many, but Jamie from Down to Earth Derby had me completely riled up and ready to go. I loved his energy and his message was one I could instantly get behind. I want to see something like that in Bristol and then UK-wide. I was really impressed by Zara and her ingenuity to start her own tech start-up - I’m not badass enough to do something like that. I really loved Nina’s message around Slow Travel - she really connects with the pleasure activist in me, and I would love to be able to have a wholly embodied, slow and mindful travel itinerary one day, free of guilt and full of pleasure.
Q: What’s next for you?
Good question. Let’s just say this isn’t the only thing Anna and I are working on together, so watch this space for what’s to come.
I worked on this alongside my day job as the Co-director of Rising Arts Agency, being on the Commission for Race Equality and on The Transforming Governance Stewarding Group - as well as all the other pies I like to have my fingers in. It’s been a lot but none of it has felt like work, I feel incredibly lucky to do such rewarding work and I’m so down to do more. But bigger picture, I want to get an agent next year and try and take presenting more seriously and be part of more epic projects - so people hit me up.
